Spray Tan Prep
24 Hours Before your Spray Tan
Shower & Shave & Exfoliate
Waxing and/or shaving should be completed at least 24 hours prior to your appointment
For optimal exfoliation, use an exfoliating mitt
Avoid Dove Products (we love their brand, but sadly your spray tan doesn’t love their products). Gel-based body washes are the very best for spray tan prep
Mani & Pedi
If you need to get your mani/pedi the day of your spray tan, please avoid any lotions or oils.
(Another quickie note - if you get your mani/pedi after your spray tan, it may affect the quality and duration of the tan - so it’s better to get it done before if possible!)
The Day of Your Spray Tan
Prep
Shower at least four hours before your appointment to allow your pH levels to neutralize.
For optimal results, end your shower with a cold rinse (good for your skin, spray tan, and health!)
Do not use any lotions, oils, perfumes or deodorant
Prepare for your appointment by washing your face to remove all makeup
Remove all jewelry. Permanent jewelry is ok!
Clothing
After your appointment, wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and, if possible, avoid shoes or wear wide, open-toed sandals
During your appointment, wear whatever makes you comfortable. If you choose to wear underwear, please wear dark underwear (thong is preferable) and/or a bandeau or small, dark colored bra
Please note: there may be some solution that comes off on your clothing, but it will wash off with water
Spray Tan Post-Care
Before your Initial Rinse
RINSE YOUR HANDS
1.5-2 hours after your spray tan, rinse JUST your hands with cool water.
STAY DRY
Do not get your body wet or sweat until your initial rinse No showering, working out, lotions, or liquid foundations until after you take your initial rinse
NO TOUCHING
Keep your palms off your spray tan to avoid transfer of your solution
Keep pets (and partners) and their licks away until you’ve rinsed your solution off
Rinsing your Solution Off
Make sure to shower at the designated time to ensure the correct color and quality
Do not use soap
Water should be lukewarm (hot water dries out your skin and can be a real downer for spray tans)
If you see streaks after getting out of the shower, hop back in and use your hand to guide the leftover bronzer off
Do not exfoliate, scrub, shave, or do anything besides a light, gentle rinse
Days After your Initial Rinse
Stay Hydrated & Moisturized
The more hydrated your skin is, the longer your tan will last
Your moisturizer should be free of mineral oil and artificial fragrance
You can use a tan extending lotion that contains DHA after day three
Drink lots of water
Shower & Soak Responsibly
Avoid using any loofahs or wash rags during your showers if possible
It is best to wash with hands only in areas where needed (pits + privates) to ensure a long-lasting tan and gel-based body wash is best
Water will affect the quality of your tan, so swimming will lessen the effects (But get in that water and enjoy! Just know your tan might not last as long)
